Some verbs have present simple
spelling changes with the pronouns such as: he, she, and it. Please study the
following rules:
1. We add “s” to most verbs as the
following:
-come
becomes comes
-speak
becomes speaks
-run
becomes runs
-walk
becomes walks
-talk
becomes talk
-chat
becomes chats
-begin
becomes begins
-laugh
becomes laughs
-smile
becomes smiles
-travel
becomes travels
-lead
becomes leads
2. Verbs that end in a “consonant +y”:
When
the verbs that end in a “consonant + y”, we often change the “y” to “ie” and
then we add “s”.
Example:
-study becomes studies
-try becomes tries
-marry becomes marries
-fly becomes flies
-cry becomes cries
-carry
becomes carries
-marry becomes marries
-hurry
becomes hurries
-bury
becomes buries
Be careful! “y” doesn't change to 'ie' if the ending in a
“vowel + y/w” is (ay, ey, oy, uy, ow).
For example:
-play
becomes plays
-convey
becomes conveys
-destroy
becomes destroys
-buy
becomes buys
-follow
becomes follows
3. Verbs that end in (ss, sh, ch, or x):
Verbs that end in ss, sh, ch, or x, we often add e before s:
-pass becomes passes
-wish
becomes wishes
-wash becomes washes
-brush
becomes brushes
-teach becomes teaches
-box
becomes boxes
-fix
becomes fixes
