TB is an
airborne infection disease caused by the bacillus Mycobacterium. It typically
affects the lungs called pulmonary TB. The disease can affect other sites
called extra-pulmonary TB. Tuberculosis is spread when sick people with
pulmonary TB expel bacteria by coughing, sneezing, and spitting. A person with
active pulmonary TB, but untreated tuberculosis can be expected to infect 10-15
people per year. Also, TB is the second leading cause of death from an
infectious disease worldwide after HIV.
