Phchum Ben is one of the main
Buddhist ceremonies in Cambodia. It survives in Cambodian belief for long.
First, it is consider as a bank holiday in government’s routine. All people in
the whole country are allowed to take this long day-off in order to enjoy this
reception at their homeland together with families or relatives. Pchum Ben is
also an occasion for children to be thankful to their parents and ancestors.
People take his chance to return something such as giving money, buying new
clothes and even cooking delicious diet for their real living Gods at home
because they want to get bless from them. Another compulsory traditional
activity is that offering food to the monk at the monastery. People offer food
and presents to their ancestors through the Buddha’s subordinators in the aim
of anting them to live better lives in the next world as well as to attain
satisfied things from theirs bless. Phcum Ben is an enjoyable religious
celebration for all in Cambodia. I really like and love it, and I will never
ever forget it even I am anywhere.
